In the old days, upgrading Maximo was often a trip down the rabbit hole. IBM’s “UpdateDB” upgrade process has come a long way since then. Maximo database upgrades, where your database is modified to be compatible with a new Maximo application version and new tables/fields/screens/objects are added but your data and configurations remain intact, have become much more reliable and predictable over the past five years.
Fortunately, this is proving to be the case for upgrades from Maximo 7.6 to Maximo Application Suite (MAS) v8 and v9 too. What this means is that for more typical Maximo deployments, upgrading to MAS should not be a significant undertaking.
And for our hosting clients, we’re pleased to offer a no-charge upgrade of your 7.6 database to MAS 9. This includes two runs, one for a Test cycle so you can validate your MAS system with your data and Maximo configurations, and another for the Production go-live.
When Is There a Cost to Upgrade to MAS?
If your Maximo 7.6 system isn’t a fairly standard deployment, we will assess the upgrade effort and provide you with an estimate. Examples of factors that may require additional effort include:
- You’re not yet running version 7.6.1.2 or 7.6.1.3. Only those versions can be upgraded to MAS.
- You’re using Websphere JMS queues that will need to be recreated using Apache Kafka for MAS.
- You have other integrations in place that aren’t using the Maximo REST API or aren’t database-centric integrations that you will be responsible for.
- You have LDAP/SSO integration in place for user authentication.
- You have application add-ons from IBM or 3rd parties that may require additional upgrade effort.
MAS Test Upgrade – Next Step
Please contact us if you’d like to see your Maximo 7.6 database upgraded to MAS, so that you and your team can check it out using a dedicated MAS system in the MaxStack cloud. We can usually perform the upgrade on the following day, schedule permitting.
